41. The Spohrs Are Multiplying
The Story:
While mommy blogs are place of rejoicing over one’s children most of the time, Heather had her blog turn a different direction after her family suffered through some difficult times. This family of five (tiny guard dog included) began their blog through Heather back in 2007 while they were waiting for their first daughter, Madeline to arrive. Her first pregnancy was a risky one and Heather thought that she could keep friends and family informed through her blog. After being born, Madeline was an extremely happy girl in spite of her many hospitalizations (she was born premature and had to spend quite some time in the intensive care unit and had to undergo several surgeries because of her complications).
They had a wonderful time through all the small and grand successes of their life, watching their daughter overcome obstacles in spite of her not so good start into the world. All of a sudden they had to adjust to their worlds changing as their beautiful daughter died of a respiratory infection in April 2009. They were given strength when their Annabel, their second daughter was born, and with the coming of their son James the family found the courage they needed to celebrate their life in spite of their loss.
We miss Madeline every day, and will for the rest of our lives, but we find joy, love, and purpose in her siblings. Together, we are learning to celebrate life as we live with loss.
The Blog:
While talking about every aspect of parenthood, such as child tantrums and attitude, how they can bring their parents to the edges of despair one moment and give your heart all the love in the world the next, she and her husband do address the difficult experience of having to deal with the loss of a child. Their children are constantly reminded of their older sister Madeline and her birthday is not only remembered but celebrated. Aside from these heartfelt posts and honest stories, the blog also has a collection of wonderful recipes, videos and hair dos to make every mom find what they are looking for.

42. Mommy Wants Vodka
The Story:
Aunt Becky began with her blog back in 2004 when a friend of her suggested that her peculiar predicament would make great writing material (she was being stalked) in spite of her quite definitive refusal. When she started out, she viewed bloggers as narcissists who needed to feel they were the main attraction, and her first blog was actually born out of a night with her friend Pashmina when the bottles seemed to empty quite hastily. Mommy wants vodka came afterwards, when this overly-critical mom decided she would have her own take on the mommy blogs. Aunt Becky does have a Master’s in English Literature and she now admits that she simply can’t not write (and let’s face it for us, writing is cathartic).
Her first son was born in 2001 while she was, how she would name it, a single parent (she decided she didn’t want to continue the relationship with Benjamin’s father). She became a bachelor prepared nurse although her dream was to become a doctor and in 2005 married her husband (the father of her second son, Alex). This second pregnancy did come with several difficulties, such as nausea, rib spreading and antepartum depression she had to overcome. In 2009, Amelia Grace was born, and this brought new difficulty to the family as she had a congenital birth defect called encephalocele (her head didn’t form correctly and part of her brain developed outside her body). This proud, proud mother can state that her wonderful daughter did not only survive such a difficult health issue but also proved to be a fighter when at three weeks of age, she came out guns blazing out of surgery.
The Blog:
She writes witty and sharp content, spiced up with a bit of sarcasm here and there, but her content is so unique because behind all her sarcasm and tag lines like “Mommy drinks because you cry”, her posts have substance. She discusses pre-partum depression, has a ten part story about the birth of her daughter and what came after that and her blog is certainly one to look out for. I love her writing style, her About me page cracked me up, as do most of her funny posts. Definitely worth the read.
Excerpt from her “The Evolution of Aunt Becky” Post:
Besides, “how does ANYONE put up with you*?” and “would you describe yourself as more achingly or hauntingly beautiful**?” people are always interested to know why the fuck I call myself Aunt Becky.

43. Mommy Shorts
The Story:
This working mom from New York City decided sleep is for the weak and that she would give blogging a go instead. She has two daughters, Mazzy and Harlow and a husband she says she loves slightly more than her PC, although a bit less than ice cream. They decided from the get go that there would be no retiring to the suburbs for this family and that they would stick it out in Manhattan until it is no longer possible.
The Blog:
Illana combines everything nice in her blog, from pop culture to parenting advice, rants, so that she covers a little bit of everything for everyone to read. Her unique humor, the design and the way she writes are certainly worth your visit. She writes exquisite content, from differences between how her marriage was before and after parenthood and how she and her husband perceived it.
Her husband also contributed with fathering tips that are absolutely hilarious and do make for some necessary reading. Or how she got her kids believing that playgrounds close at naptime, that there is a penalty by law when children fail to hold their parent’s hands when crossing the street or that there are two different ice cream trucks, one that sells pretend ice cream, and the more elusive one, that sells legitimate ice cream. Her blog is filled with amazing tricks that are useful to any mom starting out.

44. Momastery
The Story:
Glennon is an extremely honest mother that starts off her blog by admitting to her greatest shortcomings, bulimia and alcohol abuse that haunted her for twenty years of her life and left both her and her family suffering.
My best guess is that I was born a little broken, with an extra dose of sensitivity. Growing up, I felt like I was missing the armor I needed to expose myself to life’s risks – rejection, friendship, tender love. I felt awkward and unworthy and exposed. I felt naked. And I didn’t want to walk through life’s battlefield naked. I didn’t think I’d survive. So I made up my own little world called addiction and I hid there. I felt safe. No one could touch me. (Source: About Glennon)
When she found out on Mother’s Day, back in 2002 that she was pregnant (although unwed), she had to fight the battle of a lifetime with herself before deciding she was going to become a mother. She decided she would never again engage in destructive behavior or relationships and married Craig, who turned out to be the best decision she’s ever made. Ten years from that moment she is still sober, with three kids, and has come to learn a great deal about herself, not just that life in general, sober, is quite difficult.
The Blog:
It is remarkable how Glennon allowed so many complete strangers to gain such intimate access to her life, as she addresses topics like eating disorders, alcoholism, drug abuse, faith, adoption, life’s purpose and many more with an honesty you would not believe. She views the blog as a part of her healing process, and it might very well be, since she has been keeping herself accountable through her friends and readers. The space that she has created, where viewers dealing with the same issues she’s overcome make it possible for them to learn and heal as well, so a visit to her blog could be just what some people are looking for.

45. The Run Amuck The Story
The Story:
Amber Haines decided that she would best write her blog so as to showcase parenting from the Christian perspective, although her blog isn’t all that you would expect from a Christian parent. Her guitar playing husband and her have 4 sons, and while they did enter an adoption process in order to adopt a daughter from Ethiopia, they had to cancel this adoption so as to pursue means to keep families together. With a degree in English and Creative Writing it’s clear that her blog would become the success it has.
The Blog:
The Run Amuck (or as Amber calls it, a journal) is a place where parents allover can find information not just on parenting but also on faith, family and feelings, but, as opposed to other content writers, Amber can craft scenes with such a warmth and cozy feeling that parents will feel coming back is the only option. Her blog reads as if it were written as a novel by one of your best friends and because of this, you keep hoping that everything goes well for her and her family. The section “My love songs” tells her story of how she came to be and to fall in love with her husband and family. Be prepared for a terrific read.

46. Lil Luna
The Story:
Kristyn owns and writers for Lil Luna. She is the mother of four gorgeous kids, and the wife of a smoking hot man. Together they form a picture-perfect family. The name of her blog was inspired from her mother’s maiden name Luna, and because she is one of the many Lil’ Luna’s on the farm, she has decided to name the website like this.
I don’t consider myself the most creative person in the world, but I LOVE making things, and I love sharing the ideas I’ve used or found with others.
She may not consider herself the most creative person in the world, but many people have already become her loyal fans, and her DIY and craft ideas are amazing and simple.
The Blog:
The blog was designed with practicality in mind. The best part about it (in my opinion), is the Crafts category, where Kristyn shares sweet looking DIY ideas for inventive mothers. She also gives step-by-step help, accompanied by gorgeous photos, which means that it is impossible to get things wrong. Another place you should check out is the Recipe category. I will just give you the link and stop at this, because everything looks impossibly delicious. Last but not least, there is also a Gifts category filled with amazing ideas for hand-made stuff. It is clear to me that “Lil Luna” has put a lot of thought and effort into her blog, and it turned out great.

47. The Mom in Black
The Story:
The mom in black is a sarcastic, witty, hilarious and delightful mommy blogger who has decided to share her opinions, and experiences with the world. At the moment she has two wonderful boys: Monkey, the oldest sun, Bear, who is still a baby, Bougie, the (sexy) husband, Uncle Cupcake/Toiled Head, the youngest brother and Finney, their dog. The Mom in Black has found a small corner on the World Wide Web where she shares her musings, reviews, and mumblings.
She wears a black veil of snark to cover the crazy and a black dress of cotton to cover the fried chicken. She’s not dark as she may seem. She just looks better in black
The Blog:
You can learn many things from this blog, but it is basically fun. I read it because I like the way she writes, and the fact that she is uncensored. Anyway, the MEMELAND collection cracked me up. The Mom in Black usually focused on Reviews and Giveaways (she only writes about products that she has tested herself), and occasionally she amuses us with a glimpse on her family life.

48. Ann’s Rants
The Story:
Called the “The most annoying boss of everything” by her children, Ann is a humorist that began blogging in 2008 and soon became Voice of the Year 2010-2012. This mother of two has had experience in live theater although what she writes seems more like intimate conversations with your best friend. She was also voted the funniest mom, and for good reason. Her articles are hilarious, fresh and easy to read. There is no specific topic that she focuses on. It is usually random rambling about everyday life.
In 2010 Ann founded Listen To Your Mother, spawning the live-reading series now giving Mother’s Day a microphone in cities nationwide (and appearing on NBC Nightly News, The New York Times, The Washington Post, and The Huffington Post).

49. Happy Being Healthy
The Story:
Melanie is a happily married mother of five, who has found a passion in fitness and healthy living. Unlike the previous blogs listed, Melanie’s blog focuses on the well-being of mothers. This enthusiastic mother enjoys writing about fitness, lifestyle and health topics, but she doesn’t forget to show us glimpses of her family life from time to time. She may be nearly 40, but she doesn’t look a day over 30. She is not like other mommies, who focus solely on the lives of their little ones, and she somehow manages to find time to tend to her five children, work-out, invent delicious (and healthy) recipes, and also manage Happy Being Healthy.
I know what you are thinking of, and the answer is no. She was not skinny all her life, and if you read her about page you will see that she also struggled with weight problems especially during her pregnancies. This is exactly the reason for which her blog is so inspiring. If you are looking for a shoulder to cry on, this is not the place. All of her articles are inspiring, and motivational, and they will definitely determine you to quit the life of a couch potato forever.
“I’m also happy to say that if I can do it, ANYONE can! I am a crazy mom of five young kids and am always going a million miles an hour!”
The Blog:
If Melanie can do it, so can you. Happy being Healthy is the perfect place for mothers who wish to get back into shape. The blog is divided in three major categories: exercise, recipes and Helpful Tips. Melanie has conveniently placed her favorite articles and recipes, in order to make it easier for visitors to find what they are looking for. Also, a major reason for which her advice is so valuable is because she has actually been through all of this, she understands the cravings, the depression, the laziness.

50. Maniac Mumbling
The Story:
As if you WANTED more me, I mean, this blog is full of me … well, me and everything from my perspective.
(Source: Mostly Me)
What I appreciate most about different blogs is their originality. Maniac Mumbling is one of the most original mommy blogs that I have found so far. Much like Snarky Mommy, it has its unique flavor. Beth Markley is a mother of two “mini-maniacs” called Colin and Jack, and a happily-married woman. She loves to read any kind of book/blog (even if it sucks), and her main distraction is treating her children as blog fodder. I was joking. This is just what she says, but I’m pretty sure her kids love to be part of her blog.
The Blog:
Maniac Mumblings may not make sense at times, but it is usually pretty awesome. It is a great, and fun read. As a matter of fact, it is very similar to a personal journal, with the simple difference that it is not hidden away in some dark corner. Beth doesn’t shy away from “unusual” (uncensored) language, she speaks her mind, and she is actually really funny. She obviously have a talent for writing, and you will enjoy every bit of her blog.
